SNAP was set up in September 2007 and is an artist run co-operative in the centre of Bristol, which consists of a gallery with attached studio and screen print workshop for eight resident artists. Most of the artwork sold in the gallery is produced on the premises. In addition to producing their own artwork, the Snap artists regularly undertake commissions for design and illustration. The gallery sells an exciting collection of items from cards and bags through to artist books and limited edition screen prints.
The gallery is open from Tuesday-Saturday 10-6pm.
Mission Statement
Snap is a group of print-centric artists who exist in a symbiotic, cooperative relationship that enhances their own creative practices while boosting their combined public profile through the growth and promotion of Snap facilities, activities and network of creative practitioners.
While the individual members of Snap retain their identity as creative practitioners, the cooperative is founded on three major 'collective' ideas: cooperation, promotion and networking.
Snap members support and cooperate with one another, working as a group to undertake major events and exhibitions and to ensure that, with the principles of Snap in mind, we continue to grow and innovate the organisation. At Snap cooperation also means fostering an atmosphere of trust conducive to constructive creative dialogue between its members.
Members promote Snap to the public in two ways; by maintaining and generating public interest in their own creative practices and by joining together to promote Snap events and activities collectively. Snap members are also dedicated to the promotion of the processes and methods that we share in common, manifesting itself in workshops and involvement with the community.
Snap works to network and build relationships with other similarly driven groups and creative practitioners in both the local and wider communities. Members do this with the expectation that such contact encourages collaboration and innovation rather than division and competition and elevates the work and practices of each involved party.
