SNAP presents a Bjorn Rune Lie Solo Exhibition

Wednesday, August 31, 2011
A SHOW NOT TO BE MISSED!
SNAP PRESENTS A SOLO EXHIBITION OF WORKS BY BJORN RUNE LIE.
23rd September – 19th November
Private View 22nd September 6pm – 9pm
A Norwegian illustrator who has lived in Bristol for the past 7 years, Bjorn Lie is of the city’s most beautiful hidden gems and SNAP is happy to pull back the curtain this autumn and show you all of Bjorn’s weird, wonderful, delightful and mind bogglingly brilliant illustrations and drawings.
Influenced by old botanical illustrations, photos from the Russian revolution, Victorian hothouses, modernist architectural plan drawings, Hydro electric power stations, the exploits of eccentric explorers Bjorn’s work often features an endless array of characters of varying degrees of strangeness, situated in a weird or unlikely setting. Bjorn’s images range from bright and colourful to monochromatic and highly detailed but no matter the medium, Bjorn Lie will never fail to enthrall.
Bjorn has produced work for Nobrow Press, Yee Haw Studios, Aardman Animation, The Independent on Sunday and many many more.

Farewell Winter, Hello Spring!

Thursday, January 27, 2011

The SNAP Spring Show featuring Jane Ormes. Thursday 10th February 6 – 9pm

Spring may be just around the corner – it might be. Let’s say it is. We should celebrate.

For the first show of the year we have invited printmaker Jane Ormes to rouse our flagging spirits.    Taking animals as her subject she combines collaged patterns and textures with bold forms to make screen prints that are witty and refreshingly cheerful. Jane will be showing alongside new work by the regular Snap artists.   This event falls shortly before The Feast of St Valentine and Snap will be offering interesting and unusual prints, gifts and hand printed cards appropriate to the occasion.

Come to the Private View – and get a free tattoo!

Yes it is true. Every man woman and child that comes on the night (while stocks last) will receive a free tattoo – choose from designs by the Snap artists and and our guest artist.  You can take them away or ask a certified member of staff to assist you in applying the tattoo; with water and a sponge of course.

And what refreshments will be on offer at this Private View?

Well, as is traditional around Valentines day, the drinks will come in pink, so there will be the classic champagne (cava) with Cassis, the Kir Royale.   But in addition Snap will be serving a cocktail created specially for the occasion:   The Cider Royale.   This drink has been created in association with our sponsor, The Cider Shop.    Snap recommends this new venture on the Christmas Steps – a  fantastic shop dedicated to the national drink of the west country.

And for finger food we will be offering pretzels.

PS: Screenprint workshops
Want to try screenprinting yourself?  The next block of classes are listed on the website – running most Saturdays and occasional Sundays currently bookable up until March.

Farewell Winter, Hello Spring runs from Tuesday 8th Febuary until Saturday 2nd April.

Kelly Stewart’s Winter Show At SNAP

Tuesday, October 26, 2010

Snap presents The Winter Show featuring Edinburgh based print maker Kelly Stewart.

Kelly will be presenting a brand new collection of prints based on Bristol street scenes. Taking her inspiration from Victorian and Gothic architecture, Kelly uses the medium of screen print to combine these towering, and sometimes tottering forms with handwritten text.

Alongside Kelly, the usual Snap suspects have been busy making new work for the festive period, from hand printed Christmas cards, artist books, cushions, decorations and of course lovely prints and much more!

The Winter Show runs from Tuesday 9th November until the end of January.

Chitra Merchant

Monday, May 10, 2010

As the summer approaches, we all start to daydream about getting away to the exotic sands and seas of foreign nations. Well, daydream no more as Snap’s summer show brings you a little taste of India via the visual delights of Chitra Merchant, our second invited artist to exhibit in our gallery alongside the regular Snappers. Chitra was born in India and currently resides and works in Bristol, where she experiments with various print processes, including monoprint and screenprint, to build colours up in layers that express emotion and a psychological narrative. Her clients include Actionaid, the Green Party and the Guardian. Find out more about Chitra here: www.chitra.co.uk
